E-Waste Recycling

According
to President Nancy Gray, the goal of the event is to collect 200,000
pounds of e-waste. The e-waste Hollins collects will be transported to a
Massachusetts ecycling facility
that processes material on-site instead of sending it to developing
countries. It also guarantees the complete removal and
destruction of digitized personal information stored on hard drives or
other media.

Synchrony Relocates to Valley

On September 5, 2007,
Synchrony Inc., a Roanoke County-based company specializing in the
development and production of magnetic bearings, controls, and power
systems for high speed rotating machinery, announced the opening of a new
facility in Roanoke County’s Valley Tech Park. The new facility has
a total space of 58,000 square feet. By comparison, Synchrony’s existing
facility, which it has occupied since 2000, is about 11,600 square feet.
Synchrony will consolidate all its operations into the new facility within
the next six months. The company currently employs 28 full-time
employees.

Mennel Milling Opens New Mill

participated in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony during the Mennel Milling Grand
Opening.
Roanoke County recently celebrated the grand opening of the Mennel Milling
Company's newest 73,480 sq. ft. milling facility, located on 27 acres just off
of Starkey Road in West County. The Mennel Milling Company has been
milling soft wheat into flour in the Roanoke area for 32 years. The company has invested
approximately $31 million in the new facility which will more than double the
production capacity of the old mill. The decision to remain in Virginia results
in 33 jobs saved for the Roanoke region.
The Mennel Milling Company, based in Fostoria, Ohio,
has milled wheat into specialty flours for more than 120 years and was
originally founded in 1886 as Harter Milling Company.

Reaccreditation for Roanoke
County Economic Development
Board Chairman Joe McNamara, Assistant Director Jill Loope,
Specialist Joe Zielinski, Existing Business Manager Melinda Cox, Administrative Assistant Glenna
Ratcliffe, and Director Doug Chittum.
The
International Economic Development Council (IEDC) announces that the
Roanoke County Department of Economic Development has once again been
recognized as one of 26 economic development organizations accredited by
IEDC as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO).
Originally accredited in 2004, the organization was reaccredited by IEDC
following three successful years of activity as an AEDO member.
“The Roanoke County Department of Economic Development displays the
professionalism, commitment, and technical expertise that is deserving of
this honor,” said IEDC President and CEO, Jeff Finkle.

Stein Mart's Grand Re-Opening A Grand
Success

On August 16, 2007, Stein Mart of Roanoke opened it’s
doors in a new location within Tanglewood Mall. Roanoke is one of two
Stein Marts within the corporation that have relocated to a new site in
the same community. It is a highly unusual move for the company. The same
day that Tanglewood’s Stein Mart opened, the corporate office also opened
a brand new store in Kannapolis; the Roanoke store’s re-opening out
performed the North Carolina store and ranked high within all corporate
stores. Stein Mart Corporate believes the relocation was a bold, business
move and the Roanoke store has been dubbed the “sweetheart” of the

Virginia Economic Bridge, Inc. is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization
focused on creating an environment for economic development in today's
technologically advanced society. The programs and services used to
produce the desired results are a combination of components currently in
place: Virginia Procurement Pipeline, Entrepreneurship Award, Linked
Workforce, Regional GIS Telecommunication Infrastructure Mapping
Project, Community Audit, and the Western and Southwestern Virginia
Public Education Consortiums.
The mission of Virginia Economic Bridge, Inc. is to promote the
economic vitality and external competitiveness of the Commonwealth
through business, industry and educational partnerships between
Southwestern Virginia, Northern Virginia and other areas of the
Commonwealth.
