Eleven years ago, the Virginia Municipal (VML) League program added a new category to their statewide achievement awards. The President’s Award was developed to encourage the ideals of entrepreneurial government through the delivery of improved services to its citizens. Roanoke County received the award for TEK Camp 2006 which is a collaboration with Hollins University to identify youth with technical potential at an early age, enhance their skills training in the secondary school system and have the graduate enter into an entry level job that has a sustainable career path. The President’s Award is the most prestigious award granted by the VML statewide on an annual basis.

Roanoke County and Hollins University wish to thank the following sponsors and participants for making TEK Camp a statewide success: Mel Wheeler, Inc., RVTV Channel 3, Virtual IT, Virginia Tech, TechLab, WDBJ Channel 7, Cave Spring Fire Station, First Team Auto Mall, Virginia’s Explore Park, Luna Innovations, Adams Construction and Cox Business Services.

The VA Municipal League is a non-profit, non-partisan association of cities, towns and counties in Virginia. The league was established in 1905 for the purpose of improving and assisting local governments through legislative advocacy, education, research and cooperative effort.
