TMEIC GE RELOCATES TO ROANOKE COUNTY

Toshiba, Mitsubishi Electric Industrial Systems Corporation-General Electric (TMEIC GE), internationally based integrator of drives automation systems and one of the Roanoke Valley’s largest employers of high technology automation engineers, announced on January 30th that it will move from the Salem location it currently shares with GE Energy Controls and Power Electronics to the former headquarters of the Atlantic Mutual Companies, at 1325 Electric Rd. in Roanoke County. “Virginia is a very friendly business state, and the Roanoke Valley has been an exceptional location, first for GE and now for our joint venture,” said Dale Guidry, President and CEO. ITT NIGHT VISION
AWARDED A $174.7 MILLION CONTRACT

ITTNV President and General Manager, Mike Hayman, presides over the Flag Dedication Ceremony to celebrate the renovation of the Administration Building.

ITT Night Vision, the world’s leading developer, producer and supplier of Generation (Gen) 3 image intensifier technology, announced a $174.7 million contract award from the U.S. Army Research, Development & Engineering Command Acquisition Center on January 16, 2008. The order is for the AN/PVS-14 night vision monocular-ITT's most versatile night vision unit-and spare image tubes. It is the latest order for the Omnibus VII contract awarded by the U.S. Army in September 2005 which has a total potential of $1.39 billion. Headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., ITT has served the U.S. military with premier night vision solutions for more than 45 years and delivered its one millionth Gen 3 image tube in 2007.

On January 24th, the company held a Flag Ceremony conducted by members of the 116th Infantry, 29th Division in recognition of the administration building renovation at the Roanoke County Plant.

INVESTS IN THE NEXT DECADE

President Blake Harris welcomes customers to the charter Manufacturing Expo

Blue Ridge Color Company (BRCC) was founded on February 1, 1998 in South County and later relocated to Interstate Commerce Park in North Roanoke County. In observance of the company’s tenth anniversary year, President Blake Harris and his colleagues are also celebrating the expansion of BRCC with the purchase of a brand new training facility. The new 6,000 square foot facility will house the corporate offices, a training area and a state-of-the art paint booth which is located next door to Blue Ridge Color’s original property on Garland Circle. On February 6 -7, 2008, a Manufacturer’s EXPO was held in the educational facility with vendors from the southeastern United States.

Blue Ridge Color Company is a distributor of automotive paint and body supplies. In 2002, the company was the first in the area to provide a full-training center for continuous education for technicians and management. BRCC also has store locations in Tennessee and North Carolina.

OPTICAL CABLE RECEIVES AWARDS

Recently, Optical Cable Corporation was honored as 2007 Manufacturer of the Year by Start-It Magazine in the mid-market category. This award honors manufacturing companies demonstrating excellence and an ability to embrace today's challenges and overcome hurdles to remain competitive. Start-It was launched in 2000 as the only publication dedicated to educating manufacturing and engineering executives about the business of technology and serves as an advisor to manufacturing executives.

Optical Cable was also named 2007 Business of the Year by the Blue Ridge Business Journal in December of 2007. The company was chosen because it serves as a model to other organizations on how to bounce back from adversity, excel financially and be a contributor to the regional economy. The Blue Ridge Business Journal is one of Virginia's oldest (founded in 1988) business publications which covers business news for 17 counties in the Blue Ridge Region.

TONS OF FUN AT TANGLEWOOD MALL

Roanoke County Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, along with support from a wide variety of Roanoke Valley organizations, presented the 9th Annual “Tons of Fun” at Tanglewood Mall on February 2nd. The day of family fun included clowns, puppet shows, music, magicians, games, caricatures, carnival rides, exhibits, entertainment and much other activities spread throughout the Mall.

This special event was launched in 2000 with the County's Y2K Celebration. It is held the first Saturday in February and the event team is constantly expanding the concept with both new activities and entertainment for children who are 12 and under. Each year, over 8,000 people attend this event.

All activities are free, thanks to the sponsorship of Tanglewood Mall, Roanoke County’s Department of Economic Development and Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. A very special thanks is also extended to the Roanoke County Public Libraries.

RVTV's ROANOKE COUNTY BUSINESS PARTNERS

Tanglewood Mall is the new feature show on Roanoke County Business Partners. Rebecca Spaid, Marketing Manager for Tanglewood Mall, joins Roanoke County Business Partner's host, Melinda Cox, to showcase the expansions, relocations and renovations that have taken place since 2006. Doug Chittum, Director of Economic Development, interviews Wendi Schultz of the Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department and mall merchants about the special event Tons of Fun which demonstrates the economic impact of a collaboration between businesses and local government.
