Ingersoll Rand's Role in Mine Rescue
On July 24, 2002, nine miners were trapped 240 feet underground in
the Quecreek Mine near Somerset, PA, when they inadvertently breached an
abandoned, water-filled mine. The next morning, a 1,500-pound drill bit from
another company broke in the shaft during the rescue operation. An
Ingersoll-Rand dealer in Somerset, PA, called requesting assistance on Thursday
morning and by 8:00 a.m., the Roanoke Plant had a downhole drill and a 30-inch
drill bit being transported to the rescue site. On Friday, the Roanoke Plant
sent another drill with a 26-inch drill bit as a back-up to the rescue mission.
The Ingersoll-Rand drill delivered on Thursday, July 25, broke through the
ground to reach the trapped miners. Roanoke County congratulates the employees
of the Ingersoll Rand Roanoke Plant for the important role they played in the
rescue operation.

East West DyeCom in
Southern Living Magazine
Southern Living Magazine
featured local businesswoman, Tamea Franco-Woodward, on the cover of the
magazine’s September 2002 Mid-Atlantic Living People & Places section. The
Southern Living article focused on Franco’s company, East West DyeCom, Inc.
(EWDC), which specializes in aluminum anodizing. Anodizing is an electrochemical
process that rearranges the molecular structure of aluminum surfaces, making
them abrasion resistant and rust-proof. When dye is added to the process, the
color becomes deeply embedded into the metal, versus simply being applied to the
outside, and won't rust, fade or chip off. EWDC anodizes precision machined
parts for military, medical, and manufacturing applications and aluminum sheets
for artists and crafters in making jewelry to wall hangings. East West DyeCom,
Inc. is a leading provider of top-quality anodized aluminum products.
