Integrity® Windows and Doors of Roanoke Receives VPP Star Certification Award

Recognition signals company’s commitment to high standards of excellence in safety

Roanoke, VA – In a flag raising ceremony held today the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry and Roanoke County recognized Integrity Windows & Doors’ Roanoke Facility as a Star Worksite under Virginia’s Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), the program’s highest level of recognition.  The facility was honored with a Certificate of Recognition issued by Governor Kaine.

“The management and employees of this facility have exemplified true leadership in the area of occupational safety and health," said Governor Kaine. "I congratulate Integrity Windows and Doors’ Roanoke facility on the occasion of their designation as a Star Worksite."

As part of the recognition for achieving Star status under VPP, the worksite is entitled to fly the VPP “Star Worksite” flag. Commissioner C. Ray Davenport of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry presented the flag to the employees and management of Integrity Windows and Doors’ Roanoke facility on December 2, 2008.

“I commend the management and employees of the Integrity Windows and Doors’ Roanoke facility for embracing the cooperative spirit of VPP,” stated Secretary of Commerce and Trade Patrick O. Gottschalk.  “Both the facility’s and the Commonwealth’s economic interests are well served under this cooperative effort to protect worker safety and health.”

In notifying the company of the honor, Commissioner Davenport noted that, “The process of reaching Star, the highest designation offered by the Department of Labor and Industry, is rigorous to ensure that only the best programs qualify. To date, only 48 Virginia companies have accepted the challenge of attaining such an outstanding achievement.  Integrity Windows and Doors Roanoke has set a standard of excellence that is second to none.”  “Roanoke County is proud to recognize the significant efforts of Integrity and its employees for this great achievement,” said John Chambliss, Acting County Administrator.  They have truly demonstrated their commitment to quality and safety through the receipt of this award. Roanoke County is proud to have Integrity Windows as an outstanding corporate citizen.”

In the VPP, a cooperative relationship is formed between VOSH, business, and employees which include the agreement of business leaders to operate an effective program that meets a rigorous set of occupational safety and health criteria.  Employers agree to voluntarily participate in the program and strive to assure a safe and healthy workplace. Before any Virginia business gains VPP recognition, VOSH thoroughly reviews safety and health measures and program procedures established by the company to ensure they meet the required criteria.  VPP includes two levels of participation – Merit and Star - with Star the highest.  Similar voluntary protection programs are conducted in other states across the country.
