Novozymes in Salem, VA was honored at the second annual Virginia Manufacturing Industry Conference & Governor’s Award Ceremony at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, Richmond, Va. on September 22.
A panel of judges from industry, academia and regulatory agencies recognized Novozymes with its highest honor, the gold award, for the company’s work in developing and promoting biological solutions that provide environmentally friendly solutions for applications in cleaning and maintenance, plant care and industrial waste treatment. “In our vision, we imagine a future where our biological solutions create the necessary balance between better business, a cleaner environment and better lives,” said Ted Melnik, President of Novozymes in Salem.Melnik continued: “We have found the Roanoke Valley to be an excellent location to work both for quality of life and the development of an excellent organization.” Through acquisitions and organic growth, Novozymes’ microorganism business, which is headquartered in Salem, has nearly tripled in size since its inception in July 2001. The first business to locate at Roanoke County’s Center for Research & Technology, Novozymes has business and laboratory operations in a 27,000 sq. ft. facility. Several manufacturing and warehouse locations in the Roanoke Valley will eventually be consolidated at the Center.
Novozymes’ microorganism business employs over 215 worldwide with approximately 175 people located in Salem at sites on Kesler Mill Rd. and Chapman Ave., which include offices, research and development labs, and manufacturing facilities.
