Two New Businesses Locate in Roanoke County
June 26, 2002 — Roanoke, Virginia — Roanoke County announces the grand opening of two new businesses in South County. As the economy strengthens in the second quarter of 2002, construction on new businesses and the expansion or renovation of existing businesses has been significant throughout the County. One ribbon cutting ceremony and one certificate presentation will be held this weekend for Thomas Benton Interiors on Starkey Road and Carlos Brazilian International Cuisine on Electric Road respectively.

Open House & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Mike and Laurie Hartwell Martin will host the Grand Opening of Thomas Benton Interiors located at 4903 Starkey Road on Friday, June 28, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Wine and Cheese Cocktail Party and Open House. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held at 6:00 p.m. This will be a dual ceremony for Thomas Benton Interiors and MRM & Associates Insurance. The store is 3,500 SF and will have two consultants on staff. Spring store hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday hours are 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Private appointments can made be made by calling 343-8700.
A division of Hartwell Design, the Thomas Benton showroom features antique architectural elements and handcrafted furnishings. The “Old World” décor of understated elegance and eclectic styling is showcased with imported heirloom quality accent pieces, authentic reproductions, hand painted and hand rubbed furniture finishes, and accessories reminiscent of European artifacts.

Open House & Certificate of Appreciation Presentation

The Amaral Family will host an Open House at the new location of Carlos Brazilian International Cuisine on Sunday, June 30, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. The event is open to the public. The new restaurant is 5,200 SF and management will add 10 new employees to their existing staff of 25. The restaurant will open for business on July 11th at 4:00 p.m. Carlos is located at 4167 Electric Road.
The renovation of Carlos’ new site takes full advantage of the incredible view of the valley and mountains in the windowed Rio Lounge. Other theme dining rooms include the Amazon Dining Room, the brick Market Street DiningRoom which brings “downtown uptown,” Minas Gerais Dining Room which is the Amarals homestate in Brazil, the Rio Dining Room, and the Executive Dining Room accented with stained glass windows depicting Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio. The new location will also include a Pastry Bar.
